Zines.

No matter how you pronounce the word - Zeens or Zeyens - they’re an incredibly interesting snapshot of lo-fi make it yourself culture.

The anti-design mashup’s of cut n paste graphics, handwritten text, photocopied fades and super-obscure subjects, they are so visually messed up they are beautiful.

And this website is a beautiful entry point to that world. An overview of a Zine collection acquired by the University of Iowa Libraries back in 2013 it’s a window into a world that is equally weird and interesting.

We’ve always talked about creating one and never actually done it, but this sure did get us inspired - we dare you to read it without wanting to start your own obscure zine.
